Success on the field is allowing them to use their celebrity status to help others and give back to their community.

The Santana Moss Foundation recently hosted The Moss Brothers Celebrity Weekend. This annual event in the Moss brothers’ hometown of Miami, is attended by some of the NFL’s biggest stars. The goal is simple…raise money for charity.

The proceeds from this year’s Moss Brothers Celebrity Weekend will benefit the Santana Moss Foundation and the foundation of the late Sean Taylor, former teammate and close friend of Santana Moss.

The weekend’s activities included the Moss Brothers “Kids Day At The Movies”, a community fair and a celebrity softball game.

As you will see in this episode of Out of Uniform, the Moss Brothers Celebrity Weekend is embraced by the Miami community and is close to the heart of both Santana and Sinorice Moss.

The Redskins expect to have a new coach in place by the end of the week. And last night’s Super Bowl won’t play a role in deciding who will, or won’t, get the job.

They will interview New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo on Tuesday in Washington, according to a team source.

One team source said there is no front-runner, though the bulk of the speculation centers on former Giants coach Jim Fassel. Most peg him as the favorite to land the position.

However, owner Dan Snyder told the Richmond Times-Dispatch in Arizona that, “I really like Ron Meeks.” The Indianapolis defensive coordinator has interviewed twice for the position.

Former San Francisco and Detroit coach Steve Mariucci interviewed last Wednesday.

Meanwhile, former Redskins assistant head coach/defense Gregg Williams will interview in Dallas. The Cowboys run a 3-4 front; Williams mostly has coached a 4-3 front. But it’s likely Williams would be considered for an assistant head coach/linebackers position.

Washington fell to the Seahawks, 35-14. Yeah, yeah, they lost by 21 points. But the game was much more competitive than the score implied. In fact, after a Seattle special-teams mistake gave Washington a fortunate fourth-quarter possession deep in Seattle territory, I was starting to believe that something otherworldly was affecting the outcome myself. But there’s only so much poltergeists can do.

For most of the first half, it looked as if Seattle’s defense was going to keep the Redskins offense completely bottled up. Patrick Kerney led the way for Seattle, a seething pillar of menace that single-handedly short-circuited our schemes, providing plenty of opportunities for his teammates to get into the act. A Leonard Weaver run for touchdown and a second quarter field goal allowed Seattle to take a 10-0 lead into the locker room, with Washington looking for some sort of answer to get the team moving again.

Washington responded in the second half by giving quarterback Todd Collins some adjustments - shorter drops and quicker reads - to help him get rid of the ball in the face of Seattle’s onrush. But Seattle gave Washington an assist themselves by going conservative on defense and easing up on the pressure - the wages of playing teams like Arizona and St. Louis, I suppose.

The club was ahead 13-0 at the close of the third quarter in Saturday’s NFC Wild Card matchup against the Washington Redskins. The Seahawks had held the Redskins to just 116 net yards in the first half, including 52 on the ground, and Josh Brown’s 33-yard field goal that put Seattle up by 13 points came after the defense held Washington in check yet again on its first offensive possession of the second half.

However, the Redskins, a team that has battled nothing but adversity this year — including the death of safety Sean Taylor — showed they were not going to quit. And Seattle never saw it coming.

Washington quarterback Todd Collins opened up the fourth quarter with a touchdown pass to make it 13-7. Two plays later, the Seahawks’ Matt Hasselbeck was picked off by Washington rookie safety LaRon Landry. That led to a 30-yard touchdown pass by Collins to Santana Moss.

“It’s priceless,” Pedro Taylor said. “Life is priceless, but when you give love and you receive it back, it’s amazing. And we just say thank you.”

Yesterday was wrap-up day for the Redskins, featuring the team meeting that always follows the last game of the season. Beforehand, Taylor had his own season-ending visits with several coaches. He received a copy of “Racing to Win” from Gibbs and gave updates on his son’s family, including the late safety’s year-old daughter, Jackie.

“She’s doing great,” Taylor said. “We’ll continue to get memorabilia and things to remind her of her father and who he was.”

There was the usual assortment of great performances, close wins, agonizing losses, great catches, lousy throws and questionable calls during the last four months, but this Redskins season will be remembered first and foremost for No. 21. It was the margin of victory in the final regular-season win over Dallas and the margin of defeat in the playoff loss to Seattle. It was seen everywhere on helmets, jerseys, T-shirts and hats - Santana Moss even created a hand gesture that spelled “21″ - all in memory of the player who wore that number, the talented defensive back who was shot at his Miami home Nov. 26 and died a day later at the age of 24.

Taylor

Miami-Dade County police officers were dispatched to Taylor’s home at about 1:45 a.m. and found him shot. He was then airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said. He didn’t know where on Taylor’s body he was shot.

The Miami Herald reported paramedics found Taylor with a gunshot wound to the groin. A family friend who did not want to be identified told ABC-TV 10 in Miami that Taylor was shot twice.

A brief statement from the Redskins said Taylor was undergoing treatment at the Miami hospital and that police were investigating. His family has asked that no information about his condition be released at this point, said hospital spokeswoman Lorraine Nelson.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Taylor family.

Fitted with an altered pair of cleats to cushion his bruised right heel, Washington Redskins wide receiver Santana Moss practiced yesterday for the first time in two weeks and is listed as probable for tomorrow’s game against Dallas.

Moss participated in full drills after team trainers modified one of his cleats to provide better comfort. They cut out the heel area and inserted a plastic cup to add extra padding, then taped it together. The alterations enabled the team’s top receiver to test his heel while the Redskins (5-4) completed preparations to face the NFC East-leading Cowboys (8-1) in Irving, Tex.
